Replacing metal fillings
with composite fillings
The newest generation of tooth-coloured filling materials, called composites, is created using the most life-like materials to fill cavities. These materials are able to duplicate the true appearance of a tooth, but they also provide strength to the tooth that is being restored.
There are several steps involved in the meticulous application of this material that is sealed onto the tooth. Composite filling materials bond to the tooth, thereby decreasing the chance of temperature sensitivity. The bonding process returns some of the original structural integrity of the tooth, making it stronger.
The process of whitening
and brightening your teeth
If you are interested in bleaching, we may suggest a procedure that can be done in our office. This procedure is called chair-side bleaching and may require more than one office visit. Each visit may take from 30 minutes to one hour.
During chair-side bleaching, we will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues. A bleaching agent is then applied to the teeth, and a special light may be used to enhance the action of the agent.
Teeth whitening at home
You can also have your whitening done at home. For this "at home" procedure, we fabricate custom-made whitening trays for your teeth; we provide you with a special gel and show you how to use it. Usually, you will wear these trays while you are sleeping.
